About the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club

Founded in 1957, the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club features an active volunteer-run organization with a hatchery, an indoor firearms range, and an indoor/outdoor archery range. There is a banquet hall and a nature trail along the Little Campbell River that runs through the Club’s 29-acre property. The trail is open to the public most days of the year at no charge.

Nature Trails & Grounds

In 1984, volunteers built the first section of our nature trail along the Little Campbell River, located within the forested portion of our 29-acre property.

The 650-metre lower forest trail loop is an easy, level, wheelchair-accessible walk. It follows the riverbank from the main gazebo to a pedestrian bridge at the far end of the property. During the fall, visitors can often spot salmon spawning in the river from several viewpoints along the trail.

Wildlife is abundant here. Regular sightings include:

Beaver, mink, river otter, muskrat, and deer
Eagles, red-tailed hawks, owls, and many songbirds

How We Built the Club

In 1979, the perfect piece of riverfront land came up for sale. Securing the 29 acres our volunteers wanted required also purchasing an additional 40 acres of adjoining pastureland. The cost was significant, but Club members stepped up—four members mortgaged their homes, and others secured loans to make the purchase possible.

Over the next 14 years, volunteers built:

An access road and heavy-load bridge
The first all-volunteer hatchery in British Columbia (1983)
A deep well and advanced water-filtration system
An innovative fish fence later endorsed by Fisheries & Oceans Canada
A nature trail used by thousands of visitors each year

In 1994, with help from the Lions Club and extensive fundraising, volunteers completed our Education/Club House, including a multi-use archery, .22 rifle, and firearms range in the basement.

Today

More than 10,000 people visit the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club every year to:

Tour the Little Campbell Hatchery
Walk the forest nature trail
Participate in archery and firearms range activities
Attend meetings, workshops, and community events in our main hall

What began as a small group of hunters and fishers has grown into a thriving volunteer-driven community dedicated to promoting archery, firearms, and the hatchery.
