About the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club
Founded in 1957, the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club began with a simple but powerful mission: to restore and protect the Little Campbell River, a watershed severely damaged by decades of unregulated gravel extraction. A group of conservation-minded outdoorsmen from White Rock, Surrey, and Langley came together to heal the river, safeguard local wildlife, and eventually build a permanent home.
For more than 65 years, volunteers have continued this legacy. Today the Club’s members include archery and firearms enthusiasts as well as a thriving salmon hatchery.

Nature Trails & Grounds
In 1984, volunteers built the first section of our nature trail along the Little Campbell River, located within the forested portion of our 29-acre property. This forest—part of the larger Little Campbell River Forest—is a thriving second-growth ecosystem and a rare green refuge within the farmland of the Hazelmere Valley.
The 650-metre lower forest trail loop is an easy, level, wheelchair-accessible walk. It follows the riverbank from the main gazebo to a pedestrian bridge at the far end of the property. During the fall, visitors can often spot salmon spawning in the river from several viewpoints along the trail.
Wildlife is abundant here. Regular sightings include:
- Beaver, mink, river otter, muskrat, and deer
- Eagles, red-tailed hawks, owls, and many songbirds
The trail offers a peaceful, ever-changing glimpse into the ecology of the river and surrounding forest.

Environmental Stewardship
Protecting the Little Campbell River has always been at the heart of our work. Since incorporation, the Club has led and supported numerous conservation and restoration initiatives in partnership with like-minded organizations.
How We Built the Club
In 1979, the perfect piece of riverfront land came up for sale. Securing the 29 acres our volunteers wanted required also purchasing an additional 40 acres of adjoining pastureland. The cost was significant, but Club members stepped up—four members mortgaged their homes, and others secured loans to make the purchase possible.
Over the next 14 years, volunteers built:
- An access road and heavy-load bridge
- The first all-volunteer hatchery in British Columbia (1983)
- A deep well and advanced water-filtration system
- An innovative fish fence later endorsed by Fisheries & Oceans Canada
- A nature trail used by thousands of visitors each year
In 1994, with help from the Lions Club and extensive fundraising, volunteers completed our Education/Club House, including a multi-use archery, .22 rifle, and firearms range in the basement.
Today
More than 8,000 people visit the Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club every year to:
- Tour the Little Campbell Hatchery
- Walk the forest nature trail
- Participate in archery and firearms range activities
- Attend meetings, workshops, and community events in our main hall
What began as a small group of committed conservationists has grown into a thriving volunteer-driven community dedicated to protecting the Little Campbell River and connecting people with nature through education, recreation, and stewardship.
